Unafraid to Dream
The Faces of DC Latine ChangemakersUnafraid to Dream: The Faces of DC Latine Changemakers is a community-centered portraiture and storytelling project celebrating the resilience, cultural richness, and lived experiences of Latine changemakers in Washington, DC. Inspired by community dialogue and shaped by the heightened fear and uncertainty experienced by families who have migrated, this project will use art to uplift stories that deserve visibility, recognition, and celebration.
Portraits will incorporate personal histories, cultural traditions, meaningful iconography and settings informed by collaborative interviews and photography sessions. Each portrait will be accompanied by a video sharing the human’s story and the artistic process behind the painting.
The project will culminate in a free public exhibition during 2027 Hispanic Heritage Month. Through portraiture, digital storytelling, and community engagement, the project aims to affirm the dignity and contributions of Latine communities while creating a lasting record of the people shaping civic and cultural life in the District.
